Keep Your Financial House in Order
Your cheat sheet for staying on top of your finances.
Unfortunately, when it comes to money, there’s no such thing as “set and forget.” Each year, there are tasks you need to tackle to keep things ticking along. These might include reviewing your subscriptions, comparing utility providers for better rates, or shopping around for insurance.
But don’t worry—you don’t need an endless to-do list staring at you from the fridge, making you feel guilty every time you walk by. The key is to spread these tasks throughout the year, breaking them into manageable chunks. This doesn’t have to be an overwhelming overnight overhaul.
Set reminders in your calendar to tackle different tasks at specific times. By spacing things out, you’ll stay on top of your financial housekeeping without it taking over your life.
For example, you could set a reminder a month before your car insurance is due to shop around for a better premium or better cover. On that day, dedicate 30 minutes to comparing options and getting it sorted.
Each September, once your super fund has sent out its annual statement, you might set aside time to review your superannuation. Check your contributions, fees, and investment performance to ensure you’re still on track.
By planning ahead and allocating specific times for each task, you can keep your financial house in order without feeling overwhelmed.
